Hodgkinson Concludes Campaign with Victorious Display at Athlos Meet in NYC
The athlete recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.
Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday evening.
{The current Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the global championships last month, dominated an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.
Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) secured third place.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said the 23-year-old.
"The environment at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."
The women-only event packed the stadium in its second year, introducing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting standard medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is married to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to award the victors with their tiaras.
Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The event also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.
The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
