Devastated Hong Kong Locals Shocked as Major Inferno Ravages Residential Complexes

"Getting closer to the location, the warmth increases and you can experience it, with the fumes being very thick."

Young scholar Thomas Liu was among the numerous individuals gathered at the location of a fatal fire that swept through significant parts of the eight-block residential estate in Hong Kong's Tai Po area.

A minimum of over three dozen individuals have perished in yesterday's devastating inferno to date, with hundreds still not located, leading to expectations that this number will possibly grow.

"It's a disaster," the witness remarked about the blaze, mentioning that he had witnessed a body being removed from the scene.

In excess of a 1,000 other individuals were required to vacate the development as the blaze spread, with some making their way to established shelters that have been organized to house them.

The fire is gradually being contained, but emergency responders state they cannot determine when it will be fully extinguished.

Blazes could be witnessed issuing from individual homes as numerous residents looked on in stillness.

"I feel overwhelmed. The building contains so many neighbors and community members. I cannot comprehend what is happening anymore. Look, all the units are just ablaze. I am unsure what to do. I wish the authorities can support us to find stability after this."

A local woman explained that her friends live inside the complex and she was waiting to learn if they succeeded to evacuate.

An elderly inhabitant, who has lived in the second building of the housing complex for over forty annums, recalled hearing "a very loud noise" and witnessing blaze ignite in a close structure.

"I quickly went to my apartment to gather my possessions," the elderly occupant stated.

"I am uncertain how I feel right now. I'm just thinking about where I'm going to sleep this evening because I almost certainly will not go re-enter my residence."

Although the cause of the inferno that overwhelmed the numerous tall structures remains unidentified, the flames are suspected to have spread quickly through the temporary structures that surrounded the buildings, which were undergoing renovations.

Some residents have demonstrated anger that such a significant blaze could have happened and criticised the response.

"When there's a forest fire, they will deploy choppers and dispense extinguishing materials, but why is there no such response and how can they leave other complexes burning?" questioned a different occupant of the complex.

"Our neighborhood is so near to the fire department and we believed the fire could be controlled quickly, but presently the blaze has spread. I'm so disappointed," she added.

The woman stated that she had been provided little guidance from the government on where to find assistance.

Numerous area inhabitants had brought supplies to the victims - including dozens of coverings and warming devices.

During interviews about their emotions regarding the tragedy, inhabitants voiced that "the government is unprepared" and that they were "extremely distraught".

"We don't want to experience any further casualties," said an individual.

An older lady who resides in a unit within the affected buildings stated she was not at home when the incident started but that she is anxious about her residence because it is uninsured.

"I'm very upset that I have no residence to inhabit at present," she added.
